Photography often involves greater efforts than it is generally credited with. One could take photographs, and also make them. To make photos, one has to be trained in the technicalities, or have a great sense of composition, framing, light, etc. A photographer is always conscious of his perspective while making a photo.
Approach of the photographer:
Taking a photograph means simply capturing what you see before you, with hardly any attempts at manipulating it. This is generally the approach of amateur photographers, who capture an object without any expectations from it. In this case, it is the beauty of the subject captured that is emphasized on, than the talent of the photographer.
In saying that a photograph is made, it implies that the original material has been altered by inserting segments from a different photo, or removing particular segments. In making a photograph, a new visual is created, in which the photographer tries to stitch his/her perspective and influence.
Handling the device:
For most amateurs, photography is mostly about having great cameras and pressing the button. There is, of course nothing wrong with that, unless there is a conscious approach in making the device work for the photographer’s motives. The device often fails to capture the naturalness of the subject, with its default settings. Point and shoot cameras mostly result in dreadful compositions with either blurry subjects or poor light.
Exploring only with the auto focus, exposure and ISO adjustments can render much better results. However, with the present developed cameras, one may not need a DSLR to get the desired results.
To make a photograph, not only the original setting of the device needs to be experimented with, it often involves correcting light, ISO, exposure and focus mode.
How to make a photograph?
Stitching various photos:
To correct the light and shadow factor, or exposure of the subject the stitching of various photos can be done. Professionals take multiple shots of the subject with the help of a tripod, and setting the device accordingly. The more the number of exposures, the better the result will be.
Overcoming natural obstructions:
The three factors that are important in good photographs are time of the day, camera angles and weather. Depending on the time of the day, the white balance needs to be set accordingly. Sunrises and sunsets are considered to be the best time, when the light is perfect. Cloudy days generally render dull, lifeless photos. However, cloudy days can be put to good use in portraits or wildlife photography, when the subtler tones and indirect light renders wonderful results. Only, the white light has to be aptly adjusted.
Intent:
The main purpose of making photographs is to bring out a certain aspect out, which bestows the subject with an aesthetic edge. Photographers try to look at the subject differently or capture it in an unconventional way. The intent cannot of course be taught, and one can only experiment with camera angles to get something unique.
